The research

Latest Publications

Seabird science is published across a small group of specialist journals and in the wider marine and ecology literature.

Specialist journals

  • Marine Ornithology: an open-access journal devoted to seabirds.
  • Seabird: the journal of The Seabird Group.
  • Waterbirds: covering seabirds and other aquatic birds.
  • Ibis, Ornithology and Ornithological Applications: general ornithology journals that regularly publish seabird research.

Reading research well

Look at the sample size, the years covered and where the study took place. A single colony in a single year rarely tells the whole story. Long-term and multi-site studies carry more weight.

Discussing findings

New papers are a good starting point for discussion. Share the paper, summarize its main findings in plain language and note what it does not show.
